I think Corey hit the nail on the head with the last point. I think people need to worry less about what people or blogs are doing and worry more about what they can control. There is always going to be someone better than you at something. Focus on yourself and you’re sure to improve.

I love the way you were able to apply something that everyone can understand (band) to marketing. I found myself very engaged as you walked me through your points. I particularly agree with your point on selling something people want; too often marketers “fall in love” with a product without understanding whether the target market wants it. The result is a substantial amount of wasted time and money.

One of the things I love to touch upon on my blog is that it is extremely important to realize that you can be successful without making it to the number one spot. As long as you’re devoting the time and effort and constantly improving, you should be proud of yourself. Find flaws in your system or process, fix them and expand from there. One step at a time.
